Its been almost 9 years since I left high school. Time has flown by in the blink of an eye. At 18 I was sure I wanted to become a fashion designer. I did my research and applied to schools. Come August, I packed up my life and moved half way across the county to start my new life as an “adult”. Turns out I didn’t know everything at 18. I eventually realized I did not want to be part of that industry; I finished the program and spent the next few years figuring out what I didn’t want to do with my life.
I have finally found something I truly love. I have spent the last 3 years refining my skills and learning about the graphic design industry. I am now focused on creating a portfolio that will help me stand apart and a job as a designer. I am also focused on networking with other professionals from the industry. I am using social networking tools such as Linkedin and Twitter to establish an online presence. I am also attending industry events such as PechaKucha and GDC portfolio review nights. In many cases who you know is just as important as what you know in this industry and I will do what it takes to succeed. It’s been a long road and I am ready to start the next chapter in my life.
